Good Thing I'm A Cyborg

Morning weigh-in: 183.5#, 11.5% BF

Rode the towpath to the VMB meeting last night, which was at CAT headquarters -- people were a little surprised that I rode there, but as I said last night, I couldn't drive to the Coalition for Appropriate Transportation. The girl there said "that's as it should be!" (They are definitely not shy at CAT; they shamed us last night into joining as a non-profit organization, which I guess is as it should be since we're using their facilities.)

The ride home was a little easier, since a lot of the mushy ground had re-frozen and the trail surface was hard & fast. Still took me an hour though, and I was pushing it so I'd make Which Brew before the kitchen closed. Got home, called and asked them to cook me a burger (now that's what I call service!) then changed & headed on down.

A Nice Surprise: Megan was was at Which Brew, visiting from Seattle after being gone for more than a year -- she hadn't been back since her moving-away party in 2005, and literally went there straight from the airport. It was really good to see her, and good to get a chance to congratulate her on how well she's doing & how happy she seems to be in Seattle. (I get the emails & see the photos, "thriving" & "glowing" really are the best descriptions.) She's good people, I'm glad things are going her way.

Anyway, the cyborg thing: There was a light cover of snow in some areas on the towpath last night, which was good on the way out because it was firmer than the muddy gravel underneath, but near the access points (Sand Island, Riverside Park) it was a little deeper, packed and icy and lumpy with footprints. This was a pain int the butt especially on the return trip, since the trail had refrozen and was the better surface again, but I was just bumping and bouncing ans sliding along anyway, had to get home... I slid out to the left and caught myself with my foot, and only later realized that was the same move that broke my ankle a year ago (today is the surgery anniversary). Didn't feel a thing -- granted I was moving much slower, and the surface where I planted my foot was smooth, but now I also have a much stronger, titanium-reinforced ankle. Better than it was -- better, stronger, faster, I think I'll go kick something...

Geez, Don, you have to stop that business of catching yourself with your foot. Hey, do you find you have to keep your "bionic" ankle away from magnets? LOL Excuse my warped sense of humor.

D&L, hubby and I are going to Ichybon's (sp.?) Japanese restaurant on Sunday. Have you ever eaten there? The chefs cook at your table and like to entertain you with their utensil-maneuvering antics. We really enjoyed the food, and Joe indulged in a couple of different varieties of Japanese beer. Yuk. All beer tastes the same to me, except some are even more bitter than others. Betcha that comment made you wanna go "Gaaaaaaaaaaaa," huh? LOL

Turn the clock back this weekend. Wooooohoooo! More daylight! Wonder how much screwing up this will cause. Aaaahhhhh, they predicted the year 2000 would be a fiasco, and it wasn't; so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Don,
you gave me agita (sp?) with the foot!

You certainly do a LOT of riding.
You must be in terrific shape, esp aerobically.

Dad & I went to wake today- Kathy Patton (Remember my college friend Kathy & her husband Frank?). Funeral tomorrow. I'll miss her- she was earthy & lots of fun.
Since our college reunion in 2000 we had gotten together several times a year & really enjoyed it. Once we (including Gail Polisi) went overnight to Atlantic City. It was great. We were up all night- a real PJ party.

It's like a piece of my life just got blotted out. We were inseparable in college.

Well, we had good times & there are "the memories" as they say.
She died of lung cancer after 2nd operation last May (to remove the bad lung entirely) & a year of hell.

Kind of like it was with Michael, though Mike suffered longer.

I'm sorry to hear that Mom, I do remember her. Wasn't she living in Florida?

Toni: Happy Birthday! (A little bird told me today.) Never been to that japanese place, but one day I'll get you a glass of beer, that tastes like nothing else you've ever had.

Kathy lived in Breezy Pt NY (Rockaways) in last few years after having lived in SI, NY over 30 yrs.
while a NYC Rdg specialist. (She taught in an elem. school in Bay Ridge Bklyn- GM's old neighborhood).
She had moved nextdoor to her sister Noreen in SI so she could work after Frank died and so that Noreen could watch her daughter Kerriann who was 3 at the time.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Don. D&L seemed to enjoy the restaurant as much as we did.

I get sick just thinking about it.

Yikes! And double-yikes! How long until I do that? Try "never, ever!"
