Bringing To The Serai Gifts Of Tungsten, Cordite and High-Octane

Morning weigh-in (Monday): 168#, 8% BF
Morning weigh-in (Tuesday): 166#, 9.5% BF

Busy weekend, highlights being a Friday towpath ride followed by Which Brew & Porters (natch), Saturday "selfish day" plus a Jacobsburg singlespeed ride with late lunch at Christian's Spring Hotel, which was followed by Which Brew & Porters (double natch), and Sunday was a morning road ride followed by an Easter buffet dinner with the family in Jersey. I still remember all my "beat the buffet" strategies, and judging by Monday's weigh-in I guess I won...

Apparently some throwaway Saturday-night  remark I made to a friend solved all his romantic problems: he left a message on Sunday that he owes me a beer "or maybe more," but won't explain until he sees me in person. This is killing me, and I probably won't see him until after Moab...

Monday (ie yesterday) I started my new job, or rather new project -- I'm still here and I'm doing the same work, but I'm in a different group. I am not swamped (yet), but I am super busy. Last night was "active rest" in the beginner yoga class followed by laundry; this morning started with a run, and tonight is the gym with a road ride warmup.

Bring Out Your Dead: A quick tour of the intertubes reveals this, and this, and even this. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

I keep hearing McCain has a good chance of winning the election....
"in spite of." Is this country honestly comprised of that many ignorant people? People are supposedly fed up with the war and the debt and the lack of health coverage.......yet they'll vote for McCain......who will give them more of the same......rather than Hillary, whom they claim to hate, or Obama, cuz he's a black man.

I read a news piece today that said SS and Medicare are facing enormous challenges. Resources in the SS trust fund will be depleted by 2041 and reserves in the Medicare trust fund that pays hospital benefits were projected to be wiped out by 2019. Guess ya gotta hope ya die before it happens, huh? It stinks!!! It stinks just like the war stinks and just like the bush administration stinks....and those are only a few of the foul-smelling things I could mention.

Sorry Toni, got an error with that URL, it may have been deleted.

Meantime, Social Security: It's probably spurious. I remember seeing a lot of analyses back when "privatization" was being pushed, debunking all sorts of "we're doomed -- DOOMED!" scenarios. It's best to thik of this as part of the big "trillion dollar hustle," and accept that whatever source you got that statistic from is a shill for the house (or a dupe for some shill), and consider the source no longer credible -- for anything.

Aren't you glad Bear Sterns isn't in charge of your Social Security money right now?

The statistics were printed by Associated Press yesterday, Don. It's because I consider them credible that it impacted so deeply. However, maybe I'm wrong in giving them so much credibility, especially in this day and age, when so much of the news appears to be bought and paid for.

YES!!! I'm VERY glad Bear Stearns isn't in charge of SS money, but I was shocked that they collapsed.

The link was from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune....another Associated Press piece. It said:

This could make for one odd family reunion: Barack Obama is a distant cousin of actor Brad Pitt, and Hillary Rodham Clinton is related to Pitt's girlfriend, Angeline Jolie.

Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society found some remarkable family connections for the three presidential candidates.

Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother's side, is also a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissete. Obama can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.

Obama has a prolific presidential lineage that features Democrats and Republicans. His distant cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and Civil War General Robert E. Lee.

Clinton's distant cousins include beatnik Jack Kerouac and Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles.

McCain's ancestry was more difficult to trace because records on his relatives were not as complete as records for the families of Obama and Clinton.

Obama and President Bush are 10th cousins, once removed, linked by Samuel Hinkley of Cape Cod, who died in 1662.

Pitt and Obama ae ninth cousins, linked by Edwin Hickman, who died in Virginia in 1769.

Clinton and Jolie are ninth cousins, twice removed, both related to Jean Cusson who died in St. Sulpice, Quebec, in 1718.

Just one big happy family!! LOL
