Berry Berry Bonth of Bay
Morning weigh-in: 176#, 12% BF
I forget what Wednesday's weigh-in was, but it wasn't good, maybe 179# or so, product of a Tuesday trip to Which Brew for dinner (instead of shopping -- but I was so hungry!) while my laundry dried.
Finally did my food shopping last night. Busy evening: haircut immediately after work, then I rode the singlespeed downtown for yoga -- did a headstand, which doesn't seem quite so grail-shaped anymore -- home, shopping, dinner, garbage, then went out and prepped the Turner for today's ride. (I'll be hitting Round Valley after work tonight.)
It is Springtime. It has always been springtime. Spring is finally here for real, the weather's nice, the trees are in full bloom, and it's berry season at the supermarket. Among my purchases yesterday were a box of strawberries, a box of raspberries and three boxes of blueberries. You'll never guess what i had for dinner last night -- or breakfast this morning...

Got your note, and you're very welcome. Keep me posted.
Blueberries are supposedly very good for us......unlike the foods containing all the different glutens we're now finding out are contained in our food (as well as pet foods). Every day I receive a list from Itchmo with pet food recalls.
Spring has finally sprung...thank goodness. It's so uplifting to have sunshine, greenery and birds singing..except for the ah-choo's.
That stuff (melamine?) is in everything in China, they are about to have a huge problem w/ coal-waste-derived "protein supplements" in animal feed, poisoned human food, etc etc, they are ripe for their version of The Jungle.
I've been kind of leaning towards organic foods (especially if it's something already prepared) or straight agricultural products at the very least -- I cook it myself and know what it is.
I eat blueberries year-round, following the crop as it goes up and down the spine of the Americas (favorites: Chile & Maine, least favorite: CA & FL), & pick them myself in the woods at the right time. Other berries are more seasonal...
I read this morning that the melamine in pet foods was "intentional" (to save money), not accidental, and that, supposedly, the Chinese gov. will be making at least one arrest (possibly more).........if you can believe that.
Oprah once touted the praises of blueberries, saying she always has a bowl of them on her desk so she can snack on them. It's one of the few things I found interesting from Oprah. I once held her in high esteem but no longer have that feeling.
We're trying to buy organic whenever possible. A nurse told us we can get "range" chickens (is that the right term?) at BJ's, believe it or not. After hearing about hogs and chickens being fed the tainted food, we have to be careful about that stuff now, too.
What a pain in the butt! Why can't we just rely on our own country to supply our food products? Then again, the FDA has proven itself to be pretty sloppy about keeping an eye on anything lately; so I have to wonder how much safer we would be. Where the hell is our tax money going? Oh, how could I forget....the senseless war in Iraq, of course!
There's a chat room where lots of arguing goes on between pro-Bush and anti-Bush posters. It's been a war zone......up until yesterday. Suddenly several of the pro-Bush posters actually admitted they were wrong and felt ashamed for not heeding the advice of the anti-Bush posters. I couldn't believe it! They said they're ashamed of having supported him and that it's a terrible mistake they have to live with for the rest of their lives because they hold themselves accountable for the unnecessary deaths of our military and innocent Iraqis. Many pro-Bush posters told them not to be so hard on themselves and that it was BIG of them to admit their mistake. I didn't say a word, cuz I feel they're a day late and a dollar short, and I believe they'd have to be pretty damn stupid to have taken this long to see the light. What good does it do NOW?
Duh! Make that "Many ANTI-Bush posters told them not to be so hard on themselves and that it was BIG of them to admit their mistake."
No. They were the enablers of horror; admissions and apologies won't be good enough. I want them to be confronted by their mistakes, and I intend to throw it in their faces every time they go down this road again -- because they will, and will pull the same BS when they do it.
"Free range" is the term, by the way. I think it means that they don't keep animals in a pen but allow them to roam around.
I feel exactly the same way about them as you do. I refuse to let them get away with a mere apology. It isn't as if they were kept in the dark all along. There were plenty of us willing to "fill them in." They just refused to listen, and now I refuse to listen to their apologies.
"Free range!" That's it. So, does that mean they're healthier for human consumption? I'm concerned about what they're fed!
This wikipedia article might help clarify the term.
Thanks for the link, Don. After reading it, my feeling is organic is a better way to go than free range.
